Press Release 3: The Blue Residency

Six emerging artists from Sweden, Greece and Croatia produced six new artworks during the WATERFRONTS Blue Residency, an artistic residency that ran from August to October 2025 across the project’s three partner countries. Together with the three works created earlier through Community Artivism, these complete the project’s nine artworks.

During the residency, each artist worked with local mentoring from their partner organisation, IM Industries (Croatia), LATRA (Greece) or GOTALAND (Sweden), while monthly online sessions brought all the artists together for shared feedback and exchange. The artistic research took place at coastal sites, studios, galleries and community spaces, and involved collaboration with other artists, craftspeople and community members.

The six Blue Residency works

• AVTRYCK and TONER by Darja Nordberg and Martina Claesson (Sweden): two series of glass objects created with glassblower and visual artist Bevan Tako. The pieces translate community reflections on emotion and the environment into cast and coloured glass.

•   VESSELS by Aspasia Gianneta (Greece): a collection of nine ceramic sculptures inspired by forms of resilience and care.

• THE CURRENTS OF LESVOS by Apo Gonidellis (Greece): a participatory photographic collage exploring memory, migration and place.

•    I’MPRINT by Anđela Bugarija (Croatia): a choreographic reflection captured as a dance film.

• TALES OF THE SEA by Kristina Bugarija (Croatia): a series of paintings exploring emotional responses to coastal change.

The works span disciplines including sculpture, ceramics, photography, dance and painting. They have been publicly presented at Community Event activities in each country and used as part of the project’s online awareness campaign.
