WATERFRONTS Online Kick-Off: Launching a Transnational Collaboration for Coastal Resilience

On October 4, 2024, the WATERFRONTS project held a vibrant online kick-off meeting, uniting partners from Sweden, Greece, and Croatia. This virtual gathering marked the beginning of a collaborative journey aimed at empowering waterfront communities through art, sustainability, and innovation.

The session aligned on the project's overarching goals, established timelines, and initiated discussions on collaborative strategies. The meeting fostered a shared understanding of the project's mission: to address climate change and eco-anxiety in coastal regions by integrating cultural and creative approaches.

Key objectives outlined during the kick-off included:

  • Empowering Young Creatives: Providing emerging artists with interdisciplinary skills at the nexus of art, climate action, and mental well-being.

  • Community Engagement: Collaborating with local communities in Gothenburg, Lesvos, and Zadar to co-create artworks that reflect their unique challenges and resilience.

  • Policy Integration: Developing policy recommendations that embed cultural perspectives into climate adaptation strategies at both local and EU levels.

  • Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating transnational workshops and residencies to promote cross-sectoral learning and innovation.

The kick-off set the stage for a series of upcoming activities, including capacity-building clinics, community artivism workshops, and a comprehensive online awareness campaign. As the project progresses, the consortium remains committed to fostering inclusive and sustainable solutions for Europe's waterfront communities.
